To enrol on line, press the "Enrol Now" button. Enrolments on line are subject to confirmation. Your Family Name, Given Name/s and Date of Birth must match exactly what is on the ID document/s you will be submitting to Vic Roads (driver's licence, passport, birth certificate etc ...)
The course duration is approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. We provide a comprehensive 'Learner's Guide' and a Victorian Recreational Boating Safety Handbook which you can download here.
Proof of Identity - You MUST have the appropriate proof of identity (POI) with you. We are not authorized to have you participate in the course unless you have the correct and original POI. Check our Proof of Identity link on this page.
Children over the age of 12 but under the age of 16 years are eligible for a Restricted Operator Licence. For detailed information see Course Information Sheet (Page 4) or Victorian Recreational Boating Safety Handbook (Page 1). Please note children must have the appropriate Proof of Identity.
It is recommended, particularly with young children, to read the Victorian Recreational Boating Safety Handbook prior to the course. We also suggest you view the NSW Maritime Vessel Navigation Interactive Guide.
Participants under 18 years of age - please refer to Proof of Identity page for additional requirements.
On satisfactory completion of the course, a Transport Safety Victoria Approved Training Course certificate will be issued. The Certificate is not a licence to drive a vessel, it first needs to be submitted to Vic Roads for processing and the annual Boat Licence Fees paid.

- No further testing at Vic Roads
- Victorian Recreational Boat Operators Licence is valid Australia wide
Vic Roads - the boat licence can only be issued by Vic Roads, no one else. Vic Roads staff would be greatly assisted if the Application for a Licence form (which you can download here) was filled out to the best of your ability before you get to the counter. This will ensure swift processing and minimum delay.
